Spin, Spin, Solve--Hands on Math

Friday, March 28, 2014
After looping with my group of kiddos for the past few years they need to stay motivated to work and learn.   I have found out that they work best when they are "playing."  So I decided to add a few spinners and some hands on manipulatives to make adding and subtracting a little more exciting... I guess it worked because I got a parent letter, telling me she looked in Target for the game that her son was talking about.  I made her a set and sent it home secretly.  One rainy weekend  the mom broke out the game and was amazed at how much her son enjoyed "learning." Take a peek at the pictures to see how to make learning fun!   More themes and additional facts coming soon.

This Fishbowl Math game comes with addition and subtraction work mats.  Matching manipulatives and blackline masters for on the go practice.

This set is on sale this weekend as part of my SPRING CLEANING SALE.  NO CODE needed.  Just fill up your cart and check out with the sale price.
LOOK at all the other fabulous teacher authors have a sale too!

All Hands on Math!!!!!

Wednesday, February 5, 2014
Multi sensory Fun!   My kiddos struggle so much with basic addition.  The mixed group of kids this year, are struggling.  So I tried to incorporate what they like into the activities.   These Show, Slide and Solve mats are just what I needed.   They are hands on, to make math that much more enjoyable.  Use food, math  manipulatives, mini objects, anything that will make your reluctant struggling mathematician want to do math.

Here are some pictures of it in action.  For this child pretzels are the go to motivator.   While looking at the addition problem, he puts 3 pretzels for the top number, then 5 more for the second number.  Here comes the BEST part.......  He SLIDES all the pretzels down into the last box and counts them to get the answer.   After he is completed with all 10 problems and his answers have been recorded he can eat the math manipulative.

Looking for your students use counters or other math manipulatives?  Use the colored boards with unifix cubes to show, slide and solve.   Other fun counting choices are mini Lego's, teddy bear counters, or fun shaped erasers.

Want to create your own math problems, use the blank boards to create a problem just for your students.  Student math pairs can create unique problem for their partner to solve.

This hands on set includes 5 colors of games with sums up to 15.  Mix and match math mats, or keep them color coded.  Included also are math mats without colored background.

An additional unit is coming for my struggling 2nd graders!   Posted this weekend.

MONEY... Chevron.... and Classroom visuals

Thursday, August 15, 2013
I caught a little WIFI signal while traveling so here is a quick money post.   The EURO is such a fascinating currency.   I have traveled through a few countries and I can use the same currency.   The exchange rate isn't that great.   I created a set of Canadian money posters and games that seemed to catch the eye of my American friends.   I had a few requests to create US money posters so here they are.   I also included a set of posters and charts that have points to touch for easy and multi sensory counting.

I can't wait to show these fun signs to my kiddos and when my sensory students see the touch points they are going to flip!
For the touch points, I use a little shinny rhinestones and glue it to the poster, it is more exciting for them to count with and they love counting money!

OH and you might want to make sure you are around this weekend.   I am just saying something big is happening around here!

Splish Splash... We do Math!!

Nothing like ending your week with indoor recess!  :(  My boys were giving the school aides a very hard time during lunch because they wanted to go outside to play!  Who blames them, right.  I want to go outside too when I have recess.

So since I have a class of 12 boys, I let them comeback to the classroom with the school aide and use our classroom.  (I walked very slowly to the Starbucks about 3 blocks away and enjoyed a lovely beverage.  All while the kiddos were in our class playing with everything in sight.)

Not anymore!   This is what they will do on the next rainy day!

Please share what your kids do during indoor recess.

So happy for this SUNNY SATURDAY!  Enjoy your weekend.
